The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (or simply known as The Witcher 3) is the third installment in The Witcher series, announced at E3 2013. It is being developed by CD Projeckt RED and, like the games before it, will feature witcher Geralt of Rivia. Unlike other games in the series, it will be an open world game, said to be set in a world 20% larger than The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and will be released sometime during 2014 on Windows PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4. It is being developed on the REDengine3.

Chronologically, the game is set in the aftermath of the events that occured within The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings and focusses on two main plot points: one being the Nilfgaard's invasion of the Northern Kingdoms and Geralt's own personal quest to rid himself of the Wild Hunt.

[edit] Development

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been described as a ""a living open world larger than any other in modern RPG history." According to press releases, the game will feature a world 30 times bigger than the world seen in previous Witcher games, because of this increase in world size, the player will require a sail boat to access some areas, as well as needing to travel on horseback.

The Open World has been noted to be some 20% larger than that seen in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with an approximate completion time of 100 hours including main story and side quests.

[edit] Engine

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will run on the new REDengine3 engine, developed CD Projekt RED with the specific intention of creating non-linear, open world games.

This engine will allow The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developers to create "an open environment with a complex, multi-thread story" due to the lack of development trade-offs prevalent in other game engines. In previous games in The Witcher series, players were presented with a complex story with various choices which in turn would shape the world around the player with the consequences of their actions. The REDengine, however, allows for a complex story line without without the design of the world being compromised. Due to this new technology the engine provides, The Witcher 3 has no loading screens, creating a vast visual environment for players to explore.
